Staying on track

Over the weekend I felt better so I made sure I ran/walked (maybe rawalked?  or ralked?) everyday, doing about 3 miles each day.  I LOVE hot weather, but it is nice being outside when it's a little chilly, especially for my dog who would just get too overheated in the heat.  I am still hoping to make the 5k on Thanksgiving.  It will give me an excuse to eat more mashed potatoes :)!

I'm also looking into taking some kind of creative class, like pottery or cake decorating.  The only real hobby I have is reading, which I love, but I feel like especially with Winter coming I need to have something that keeps me occupied and gets me out of the house.  I'm going to look around today and see what I find.

Sometimes my uterus wins.

Okay, I was going to make this a "no uterus talk allowed" blog, but endometriosis is such a huge part of who I am, unfortunately, that I really can't leave it out.  I'll just try to keep the endometriosis talk to my other blog.

I really hate that endo holds me back from doing things, especially since this is the year where I'm trying to do new things and take risks. I had my fourth surgery for endo in July, and I really thought that was going to be the beginning of a new, pain free life for me.  Unfortunately, I am still in pain, whether it is from endo or scar tissue or something else entirely. I still have to figure out when I'm going to get my period, and make sure there are no plans for those day(s).  I feel like it's the one thing holding me back in life.  And it sucks!

I got my period yesterday, and now I am in pain and won't be able to run tonight.  I don't really care about missing one run, it's the fact that once a month, I miss something.  A family gathering, going out with friends, trip out of town, even just enjoying a lazy weekend watching TV is affected by the endo.

My only option at this point is to try to stay positive, thank God I'm not in pain everyday like some of my endo sisters, and look forward to being pain free (hopefully) tomorrow!

Have a good weekend everyone!

Runnin' Runnin' and Runnin' Runnin'

Back when I turned 29, I told myself I would run a 5k by the time I turned 30.  That never happened.  I think I put too much pressure on myself to do all this stuff before I turned 30, like at the strike of midnight on my birthday I was going to turn into a puff of smoke.  Well, since I've decided I need to start living life a little more and stop making excuses for why I can't or shouldn't do things, I have decided that the goal of running a 5k is back on.  Why a 5K?  Well, honestly, it's short and I don't want to set myself up to fail.  I don't really see myself ever being a long distance runner, but doing small races like a 5K once in awhile might help keep me on track.  A few weeks ago I just started running/walking around my neighborhood with my dog and it felt so good to be out.  I've done it almost everyday since then.  I'm not running the whole 3 mile loop, but I am running a lot of it.

So I researched a few races in my area, and it turns out there is a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving!  I immediately got anxious because I started thinking "everyone there will know each other, everyone will be faster than me, this is a bad idea..." but I just went ahead and signed up and now it's done.  I hope doing something like this will boost my self-confidence a little.  Obviously, there will be people there who walk the whole thing, and it's a big event in the city so I doubt everyone will know each other.  It's almost 7 weeks away, so if I keep going the way I am, I should be pretty ready for it.  I don't know what a good time for a first 5k is, but if I can get it done under 40 minutes I would be pretty happy.

I just hope the weather between now and then isn't too bad.  I know it will be cold but I am hoping for little rain.  I guess if it rains I'll just throw on my windbreaker and head on out!

Doing The Things I Think I Cannot Do

So I decided to start a blog separate from my endo blog (which is mostly uterus talk) where I could focus on the positive life changes I'm making since turning 30, in particular trying to embrace life in my thirties, rather than constantly mourning my twenties and wishing I was "still young". I hope to write about a lot of different things here, but especially  about attempting new things I've been reluctant to do in the past (the things I think I cannot do!). I'm a sit on the sidelines, talk myself out of everything kind of girl, and I hope to change that.  Here's to my 30's!
